solution for hooking up the canister with aftermarket carbs

June 10, , It originally had the AIR system on it, but the entire system was removed shortly after delivery. It has the original distributor and the vacuum advance is hooked up to ported vacuum. The car has always seemed to run well. Original static timing spec for this car is 0 degrees IIRC. Research also indicates that I want my initial static timing at about 10 degrees, with max mechanical advance limited to about 20 degrees rough numbers.

The threaded shaft is protected by a cone shaped boot. Each actuator has 2 vacuum ports. Mounted to the rear of each headlamp housing with 4 flanged lock nuts. The headlamp actuators open or close the headlamp doors.

A cracked manifold could cause a whistling, but it is easy enough to spot usually by giving it a little gas while looking and listening. Also while your looking at the manifold, check and make sure the cam breather hose is connected to the cam cover and the intake box, of if you have got a aftermarket intake that deletes the box, you should have a small filter on the cam cover breather hole.

Thanks for the response. The cam breather has a small aftermarket filter. There are two short breathers hanging down from a black box at the top side of the firewall. Just jacked up the car and inspected intake manifold; Two rubber hoses including PCV, both in tact.

Vacuum canister hook up

I had my vacuum advance hooked up to the ported vacuum port after reading this article I hooked it up to full manifold vacuum adjusted the idle rpm. The car has so much more power now. As many of you are aware, timing and vacuum advance is one of my favorite subjects, as I was involved in the development of some of those systems in my GM days and I understand it.

Aug 25,  · I need to know where to hook up which vacuum hoses and the carb. So here is what I’m asking, could anyone take some shots of their carb and the hoses that hook up to various things and help me out? Basic labeling and such would be so helpful. That black canister is a charcoal filter/re-breather for the fuel tank.. there are threads here on.

Joe Angell The 3. A common configuration seems to be to use a short bit of intake piping to an air filter in the engine bay itself, but that exposes the intake to warm engine air and any debris that might be kicked up in the bay. Josh’s setup removes the vacuum canister and replaces its cover with a plate behind which the air filter can be placed. This ensures cold air and minimal debris, using the entire pontoon as a cold air box. Kinds of Vacuum There are two kinds of vacuum, manifold and ported.

This is one of those things I’d heard about before, but really wasn’t sure which one was used for what, so I did a bit of research before going any further. This article does a good job explaining them.

Vacuum Lines Connection

If it does, Ryobi might give us the hybrid power capability in the next one, though it will bump up the price a little. Although some designs do a satisfactory job, more often the hose awkwardly wraps around the vacuum and the nozzles rattle around loosely. Issues like this can prevent the vacuum from storing well.

Nov 04,  · The previous owner of my 88 YJ installed the MotorCraft carb and did the Nutter bypass, but he did not hook up the charcoal canister. The (I assume stock) canister is still mounted on the lower part of the driver’s side firewall, with the tube going back to the fuel tank still in place, but there are two other tubes that aren’t hooked to anything.

Blog Ported Vacuum vs. Manifold Vacuum I found this article while searching for good tech information on the comparison of ported vacuum versus manifold vacuum. I don’t know the author so I can’t give valid credit. Net doesn’t indorse either method and there is a lot of discussion as to which is better. So, I’ll present the article and you, the reader, decide. As many of you are aware, timing and vacuum advance is one of my favorite subjects, as I was involved in the development of some of those systems in my GM days and I understand it.

Many people don’t, as there has been very little written about it anywhere that makes sense, and as a result, a lot of folks are under the misunderstanding that vacuum advance somehow compromises performance. Nothing could be further from the truth. I finally sat down the other day and wrote up a primer on the subject, with the objective of helping more folks to understand vacuum advance and how it works together with initial timing and centrifugal advance to optimize all-around operation and performance.

This requires that lean mixtures have “the fire lit” earlier in the compression cycle spark timing advanced , allowing more burn time so that peak cylinder pressure is reached just after TDC for peak efficiency and reduced exhaust gas temperature wasted combustion energy. Rich mixtures, on the other hand, burn faster than lean mixtures, so they need to have “the fire lit” later in the compression cycle spark timing retarded slightly so maximum cylinder pressure is still achieved at the same point after TDC as with the lean mixture, for maximum efficiency.

The centrifugal advance system in a distributor advances spark timing purely as a function of engine rpm irrespective of engine load or operating conditions , with the amount of advance and the rate at which it comes in determined by the weights and springs on top of the autocam mechanism. The amount of advance added by the distributor, combined with initial static timing, is “total timing” i.

Vacuum advance has absolutely nothing to do with total timing or performance, as when the throttle is opened, manifold vacuum drops essentially to zero, and the vacuum advance drops out entirely; it has no part in the “total timing” equation.

You can use this article as a basis to replace yours, just keep in mind it will be slightly different. The EEC Electronic Engine Control or computer uses electronic solenoids to send vacuum to valves in this case, three valves: The EEC sends a signal to the solenoid and it “opens” the valve to allow the engine vacuum through. The easiest way to understand this is with the EGR. The TAB valve works the same way, it either directs the air pumped from the smog pump onward to the TAD valve we’ll get there or out to nowhere not used.

When the TAB valve directs the air onto the TAD valve, the TAD valve either directs the air from the smog pump down into the catalytic converter, or into the back of the engine. You can see the yellow line coming from the TAD solenoid, the pink line coming from the TAB solenoid, and the line coming from the EVR is green; can’t see it, but it’s there. What you can’t see but when you look at your truck you can are the vacuum hoses that plug into the bottom of the solenoids.
