The car has always seemed to run well. Original static timing spec for this car is 0 degrees IIRC. Research also indicates that I want my initial static timing at about 10 degrees, with max mechanical advance limited to about 20 degrees rough numbers.

From what I read, some people have found a cracked line running from the canister to the intake manifold, and after replacing it the problem was fixed, even check and make sure it is not collapsing.
A cracked manifold could cause a whistling, but it is easy enough to spot usually by giving it a little gas while looking and listening. Also while your looking at the manifold, check and make sure the cam breather hose is connected to the cam cover and the intake box, of if you have got a aftermarket intake that deletes the box, you should have a small filter on the cam cover breather hole.
Thanks for the response. The cam breather has a small aftermarket filter. There are two short breathers hanging down from a black box at the top side of the firewall. Just jacked up the car and inspected intake manifold; Two rubber hoses including PCV, both in tact.

Many people don’t, as there has been very little written about it anywhere that makes sense, and as a result, a lot of folks are under the misunderstanding that vacuum advance somehow compromises performance. Nothing could be further from the truth. I finally sat down the other day and wrote up a primer on the subject, with the objective of helping more folks to understand vacuum advance and how it works together with initial timing and centrifugal advance to optimize all-around operation and performance.

The EEC Electronic Engine Control or computer uses electronic solenoids to send vacuum to valves in this case, three valves: The EEC sends a signal to the solenoid and it “opens” the valve to allow the engine vacuum through. The easiest way to understand this is with the EGR. The TAB valve works the same way, it either directs the air pumped from the smog pump onward to the TAD valve we’ll get there or out to nowhere not used.
When the TAB valve directs the air onto the TAD valve, the TAD valve either directs the air from the smog pump down into the catalytic converter, or into the back of the engine. You can see the yellow line coming from the TAD solenoid, the pink line coming from the TAB solenoid, and the line coming from the EVR is green; can’t see it, but it’s there.
